Welcome to Binkley Apples, located in the heart of the Southern Georgian Bay Apple Growing District. Ours is the most northerly apple-producing area in Ontario, located on the 44th Parallel. The cultivation potential of our location has been recognized since the early 19th Century. There are approximately 4,000 acres of apple orchard here—over 30% of Ontario's total commercial acreage!
What makes our region so special is the protective lake effect that occurs between the Niagara Escarpment and the deep cool waters of Georgian Bay. The fertile strip between Escarpment and our section of Lake Huron is blessed with a microclimate that makes our area from Collingwood to Meaford, Ontario ideal for growing apples. The annual yield is comprised of many varieties including Honeycrisp, Red Prince, Ambrosia, Gala, McIntosh, and Cortland. See our varieties page for a complete list.
The highest quality, since 1961
Binkley Apples Limited is a Packer, Marketer, and Exporter of Ontario apples. We have been committed to quality and service since our establishment in 1961—over 50 years! Binkley packs apples that meet and exceed Agriculture Canada Fancy and Extra Fancy, U.S. Fancy and Extra Fancy and Ontario Orchard Crisp standards. We guarantee high quality standards by means of inspection procedures at many points along our computer-controlled packing line. Binkley Apples is a year-round supplier of Ontario-fresh produce delivered in air-ride, temperature-controlled trailers.
Binkley started as a small operation. Over the years the business has expanded at its Beaver Street/33rd Sideroad location in Thornbury and is now one of Ontario's leading apple packers.
Botden Orchards Limited, growers of the premium winter Red Prince apple, acquired Binkley Apples on August 16th, 2013. Botden Orchards had enjoyed a symbiotic business relationship with Binkley Apples for several years as their preferred packer/shipper. Acquiring Binkley was a strategic move to assure our retail and wholesale business partners of our continued commitment to quality and service. We are honoured to be part of the Georgian Bay community, providing a service to local growers, to wholesale and retail buyers, and employment to our community.
The Binkley packline is integrated with an advanced computer-based traceability system that allows us to track apples from growers' orchards to our customers' shelves. Bin lots are traced through our system as apples enter the waters of our flume.
From the flume, apples are graded and packed according to customer size, and colour and packaging specifications. This is accomplished in a single one-pack process that minimizes handling of each apple. Each case can be traced from our packing facility to the individual customer and also back to the farm and block from which it originated.
